School Updates
School News
This will be the last official community update for the 2024-2025 school year. It has truly been a pleasure for all of us to be part of your lives this year. To say there has been growth would be an understatement, we are so proud of your children and their dedication and perseverance through their academic journey. Wishing you all a safe and restful summer.
Staff Updates
We are sad to announce that some of our staff members will be moving on to other adventures next year. M.Stadnisky, who has been a pillar in our school for many years will be moving to the brand new Riverside South School. Ms Keanna who has been a Designated Occasional Teacher at our school this year is off to Australia to further her teaching career. Next Thursday we will be doing a send off for these important members of our staff who will be greatly missed.
We are still confirming who will be returning in our Educational Assistant Fleet next year, once our team is confirmed we will share that news.
Grade 8 Leaving Ceremony
On Tuesday June 24th from 11:40-1:40 we will be having our Grade 8 leaving ceremony.
Hot Weather
With the hot weather and humidity we are encouraging students to drink lots of water and take breaks during physical activity. The School Council has purchased fans for each classroom and classes are invited to rotate through some of the larger and cooler areas of the school.
Potential update to volunteer requirements for the OCDSB
We anticipate an update in our volunteer requirements and are encouraging all parents and caregivers to apply for volunteer screening through the Ottawa Network For Education (ONFE).
You can apply as a volunteer through the Volunteers in Education through (ONFE). Before you start, you will need two references, one of whom can be a family member. The application takes about 15 minutes, and there is no cost to you when “for volunteering” is checked off and it is good for 5 years! The turnaround time for ONFE can take a couple of weeks to process. Please reach out to stacey.grenier@ocdsb.ca to obtain a letter to waive the vulnerable sector police check fee.
Completing this process over the summer months will ensure that you are prepared for volunteering opportunities early in the upcoming school year.
Once your screening is complete the principal will receive an email indicating that you have completed the process and that you are ready to be a volunteer for any and all school related activities and outings.
