Happy Thanksgiving to those who will be celebrating with family and friends this weekend. Read ahead for some important updates and exciting things happening around the school.

Fall Reorg

As noted last week, our school has been impacted by a reorg. Sadly, in this reorg we had to say goodbye to Mme Annika Marshall who has been a strong member of our French Immersion Team as well as an experienced coach and athlete who has led many teams to gold medals throughout her time here.

In addition to a 0.25 ESL (English as a Second Language) that was given to us in the reorg we also received a 0.50 increase in our educational assistants.  

Students who have been displaced by this reorg will begin with their new educators and classmates on Tuesday October 14.  This has been a very challenging time for our students and staff and we appreciate the community’s support through this process. 

Fall Open House

On Thursday October 16th we will be hosting our annual Fall  open house where families will be invited to come tour our school, meet the educators and participate in some activities. The School Council will be providing popcorn and apple cider for each student, extra popcorn will be available for purchase to go toward Arts initiatives throughout the year. There will also be a craft project and other entertainment throughout the evening. The event will be from 4:30-6:00. Looking forward to seeing you then!

Wanted: Rocks

As part of our gardening project we are looking to decorate medium and large rocks for a rock garden. Please bring in your donations for our students to decorate. 

Free After School Tutoring for Students in Grades 7,8

Tutoring continues for students in grades 7 and 8 from 3:30-5:00pm  on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Athletic Update

Junior Soccer Success: Mme Marshall and Mme Lefebvre are proud of their teams who had their tournament this week. The boys team came in first place and the girls came in second. Most of all they displayed exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork. Way to go!

Cross country running: This week our cross country team will be heading to Cairine Wilson for their competition. Mrs Gottfried and Mrs McDowall are very pleased with how hard the students have been practicing.  Good luck runners!

October 15th for the Intermediates (Gr 6, 7 & 8) 

October 16th for the Juniors (Gr 4 & 5).

Intermediate Football Both teams continue to practice rain or shine on Tuesdays and Thursdays for their upcoming tournament in November.  Thank you to Ms Edgecombe for coaching .

Picture day will be on October 21st.

Nov 4th/6th: Arts Canterbury Open Houses (In-person)

Canterbury High School will be hosting two Arts Open Houses:

  • Tuesday, November 4th from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Dance, Drama, Music)

  • Thursday November 6th from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM (Literary Arts and Visual Arts)

Grade 8 students and their families are invited to attend this in-person event to learn more about the OCDSB's specialized arts programming, and about application procedures for the 2026-27 school year. For more details, visit: https://sites.google.com/ocdsb.ca/canterburyhs-arts/home

OTSS Open House

  1. Open House: We're holding an open house on November 19th for all prospective students and their families. We hope to start receiving expressions of interest for the 2025-2026 school year as early as December.

School Council Update

Family Movie Night is Back!

Join us for a cozy evening of fun at our Family Movie Night on Friday, October 17!

The movie starts promptly at 6:00 PM — don’t be late!

Where: If the weather is nice, we’ll be outside under the stars — so bring warm clothing, cozy blankets, lawn chairs, or anything comfy to sit on. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we’ll move indoors to the school library or gym — either way, the show will go on!

Cost: $2 per person (children and adults) 

The student will be voting on the following movies: 

a) A League of Their Own

b) Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

c) Raya

d) Back to the future 2

Reminder! Halo Car Wash x Terry Fox School Council Fundraiser

Wash for a cause! Get your car washed at Halo Carwash (any location) and support the Terry Fox School Council.
