School Updates and Reminders
Award Presentation: Last week, during our welcome back assembly, Mme Grenier awarded last year’s recipients of the Conlan award. Each year the Conlan award is given to a junior and an intermediate student who demonstrate dedication, perseverance and initiative in both academic and extracurricular activities which contribute to a positive school and community spirit. The recipients for the 2024-2025 school year were Bryn Anderson and Rayla McCrae. Congratulations!
Terry Fox Week at Terry Fox ES
This year marks the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. We are excited to share that our school will be participating in Terry Fox Week to honour Terry’s incredible legacy. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about courage, determination, and the importance of helping others, while also engaging in fun and healthy activities.
Throughout the week, students will:
-
Learn about Terry Fox’s story and his impact on cancer research.
-
Join in our school-wide Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 18th, 2025.
We encourage families to support this cause by donating through our Cash Online option or directly through the Terry Fox Foundation at:
https://schools.terryfox.ca/
Families are also welcome to volunteer and join us on the walk/run to Cairine Wilson. If you plan to attend, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know ahead of the event and be sure to complete all necessary forms.
Thank you for supporting this meaningful cause. Together, we can help keep Terry’s dream alive and continue the fight against cancer.
Student Accident Insurance:
Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans and caregivers become responsible for these expenses.
The OCDSB does not provide student accident insurance and encourages all caregivers to consider purchasing accident insurance or student accident insurance for incidents that may not be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or any additional medical plans they have.
Student accident insurance is available for purchase, on a voluntary basis. Caregivers may apply online at insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437. The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. All plans provide 24/7 coverage and a variety of important accident benefits (benefit limits differ based on plan selected). If you have any questions, please call Jones DesLauriers Ottawa (formerly Binks Insurance Brokers) directly at 613-226-1350.
Safety Procedure Practices
This week students and staff participated in our first practice fire drill. More fire drills are planned in the coming weeks as is a lockdown practice.
Athletic Update
Cross country running: The interschool sports competitions begin with Cross Country Running. If your child is interested in competing in Cross Country, please complete the consent form that was sent home this week.

Gr. 4: 1 km
Gr. 5 and 6: 2 km
Gr 7 and 8: 3 km
Students will need to listen to school announcements for practice times, but should be prepared to run every day.

Intermediate football and junior soccer tryouts are also underway. Thank you to Mme Marshall, Mme Lefebvre, Ms Storous and Ms Edgecombe for coaching these activities.
School Council Update
We had an outstanding attendance at our first school council meeting of the year.
The dedicated council has already voted on some funds to go toward our Music and Athletic departments. They also have some great ideas to bring the community together in different ways. Stay tuned for some information about their first event that will be shared early next week.
