Bullying Awareness- Classroom Presentations Success

(Safe and Accepting School Committee Initiative)

This week all classes participated in an interactive presentation led by four of our intermediate students. In each homeroom students thoroughly explored the difference between bullying, teasing, conflict and mean moments. Learning the difference between these terms is a step in the right direction for all students to work through some of the common challenges they may encounter in their interactions with friends and classmates.

Next steps in our initiative are underway with the creation of interactive bulletin boards to keep this problem solving and resilience building dialogue going.  So many staff and students are involved in this meaningful work.

Next whole committee meeting (including families and caregivers) is at 3:30pm on April 22nd.

Elementary Program Review Meeting with Trustee Cathryn Milburn March 27th 6:30pm

The joint session for Terry Fox is with Convent Glen and Orleans Wood and is scheduled for Thursday, March 27 at 6:30 PM at Terry Fox. The format will be a one-hour open question and answer. I will then be sticking around to answer questions after the meeting. Please feel free to share with the parent council. I would like to emphasize that I am hoping this session is targeted at the parent councils and school communities for each community.

Community  Engagement:

This week, we are hoping you will further the problem solving dialogue with your child at home. Have a look at these scenarios and discuss with your child, is it a mean moment? A conflict? Teasing? Bullying? And why?

Scenario 1: A group of boys tells Tommy that he can't play football with them.

Scenario 2: Someone posts an embarrassing picture of one of your classmates. You know that student wouldn't think it is funny.
