Guiding Principles
At Terry Fox Elementary School, behaviour of students and staff is determined by our guiding principles, as outlined below. It is our expectation that both students and staff will adhere to these principles, creating a community of caring individuals.
Tolerance is accepting and celebrating our differences; our community includes everyone.
- Appreciate the similarities and differences that make us unique
- Harassment of any sort is not acceptable
Everyone has the right to be safe; hands and words are for helping, not hurting.
- Speak politely and positively to all students and staff
- Keep hands and feet to oneself, both in the building and outside
- Walk on the right side of the hall at all times
Respect people, ideas and things.
- Wear clothing that conforms to the school’s dress code
- Respond courteously when spoken to by students and/or staff
- Ensure that all areas of the school and yard remain clean and tidy
Responsibility for choices, actions and words is our commitment.
- Follow all rules of the school
- Arrive on time, ready to enter the building at the first bell
- Enter each class with an agenda and materials prepared for learning
- Complete all homework in a timely fashion
- Treat students, staff and guests in our school with equal courtesy
You can make a difference; we believe manners and courteous behaviour count.
The Terry Fox teaching team joins with our administrators in focusing on these guiding principles and reinforcing them on a consistent basis.
We will incorporate them into our curricular and extracurricular activities.
